4×2 :: After The Fall

lukeandtami

After a tumultuous start to Season Four, the second episode doesn’t disappoint at all. Buddy gives a tip to his old friend that stirs the pot between East and West Dillon. The tension is still there between Joe McDouche and Tami. But a new tension builds between Coach Taylor and Tami. The Lions quit but give Coach a second chance. Luke changes from a Panther to a Lion, and new beginnings for Tim Riggins?

For this episode Russ Polsgrove joins as a cohost, as he and I tackle both the good (and puzzling) parts of 4×2.

4×1 :: East Of Dillon

Coach Taylor gets a look at his new team, Joe McCoy still has his hand in all things Panthers, Tim comes back home, and Matt never left. Julie changes colors, Vince becomes a jock, and JD becomes a douche. There are a few funny moments, but more gut wrenching moments as season four begins.

4×1 East Of Dillon :: Reaction?

Wow. Seems that things are back on track and moving quickly. Last season ended both neatly and open ended. Glad it was open ended enough to allow us TWO more seasons.

So as we jump into the premiere episode of Season Four of Friday Night Lights here are some questions to think on for the upcoming podcast. We invite your feedback both here on the blog and by calling our voice line @ 662.259.0185.

  • What were your favorite one liners from the episode?
  • What happened to JD McCoy? Has he turned into the ultimate douche-bag?
  • If district lines were divided even somewhat evenly, shouldn’t East Dillon have close to the same amount of players as West Dillon?
  • Red just looks funny on Coach Taylor. What do you think?
  • I anticipate many battles between Tami and Joe McCoy. How do you see that playing out?
  • Buddy just doesn’t look comfortable. How long will he remain a Panther?
  • Can the Lions get healthy enough to play four quarters?

Season Four Is Here!

After a lot of hard decision making, I decided to go ahead and do the podcast during the DirecTV showing of Friday Night Lights. I’d heard that only about 20% of televisions in the US are watching DirecTV, so my initial thought was that not near as many people would be watching this fall as would be in the summer when it’s on NBC. But there are plenty of ways for people to get around that slight restriction. I know plenty of people who actually watched it both on DirecTV and also on NBC. So we’ll go with the initial run, because the die hard fans are going to find a way. Am I right?

Having said that, if you do plan to wait until it’s NBC run, then come back then. Because you don’t want to be spoiled.

As always, please feel more than free to leave feedback, comments, and suggestions here on the blog, on the voice mail line (662.259-0185) , or by emailing the show.

Season Four News

Here is a great interview with Jason Katims, the writer for Friday Night Lights. He doesn’t give away much in the way of spoilers, but he does answer a lot of questions. More than I expected. But from what he says in the interview, it makes me look even more forward to this next season.

And Chris Littmann from The Sporting News was able to go and spend a day on set with FNL. He rubs shoulders with the stars, takes pictures, and sees the film crew do their thing at the Taylor home.

What are you most looking forward to with Season Four of Friday Night Lights?

3×13 Tomorrow Blues :: Reaction

large_fnl-finale

Wow… Simply wow.

For a season finale it was jammed packed. So many emotions wrapped up in this one. And those watching for the first time on NBC were treated with the renewal news last week, so there is a sense of new beginnings strong in their hearts. But for those FNL fans who watched this season finale first on DirecTV (or by other means) in January there was a huge sense of finality and loss of the seemingly probably end of Friday Night Lights.

But we can all breath a sigh of relief, right? Here are some questions to think on for the upcoming podcast. We invite you to comment, email, or call in (206.339.5531) with your reaction and we’ll include it in the show. Here are a few questions to think about:

  • Did the shot of the Dillon baseball team at the opening throw you off? Ha, it did me.
  • Did you really expect Tyra to make it into Texas?
  • Will Tim go to SASU or stick close to Dillon?
  • How ludicrous was Billy’s wedding? The outfits, the wedding band, the reception band?
  • Not a SINGLE person stood up for Coach Taylor at the meeting?
  • Where do you think Buddy’s loyalties lie? With Joe McCoy/Dillon Panthers or Eric Taylor?
  • Strange dynamic if Tami Taylor stays at Dillon High, don’t you think?
  • JD is a rising Sophomore and is a national player candidate?

3×12 Underdogs

picture-4

In the penultimate episode of Season 3, Underdogs,  we see the Panthers go to State and lose a heartbreaker, the McCoys rally around Joe and a major rift opens between them and the Taylors.  Tyra frets over her college essay, and Landry gets to play in the State game…almost. Also we have an interview with Aaron Spivey-Sorrells who plays Coach Spivey, one of the assistant coaches for the Dillon Panthers on Friday Night Lights.

3×12 Underdogs Reaction

Wow…what an episode! So we would love get your thoughts on a few things!

What did you think about:

  • Did you expect JD and Katie to shift to protecting Joe McCoy after last week’s emotional ending?
  • Were JD’s emotions from family struggles and friction w/ Coach the cause of his meltdown, or was it just the innexperience of big time Texas football?
  • Landry had a huge episode again: helping Tyra w/ her essay, getting drunk and missing the bus, making a key block, etc. How did you feel about Landry for 3×12?
  • Does anyone cry more than Tyra in this show?
  • Tim Riggins leaving his cleats on the field…huge significance?
  • Did you notice the X-Men comic book?
  • And how satisfying was the game when you think of the up, down, Saracen switching to QB, and then the last few minutes of the game?

Leave feedback either here in the comments, by emailing at fnlpodcast@gmail.com, or by leaving a voice mail at 646-495-9205  x95469.

And as a short teaser…an interview with one of the cast members will be in the next podcast!

FNL two season renewal a done deal?

fnl-gameweek2

Can you say TOUCHDOWN!?

We’ve been hearing for the past week that the official annoucement should come any day now. And today we’re hearing Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello say it’s finally happened.  Though still no “official word” yet from NBC or DirecTV.

The details are two more seasons to run like Season 3 did: first on DirecTV’s 101 Network, and then on NBC. Two more seasons of thirteen episodes each.

Many storylines from Season 3 are wrapping up as we watch. And there are lots of questions about current characters and if they have a future in Dillon or not. And if so, what sort of situations will they be in? And we have to assume that there will be more students, players, and adults to add to season four, right?

Thoughts?

3×11 “A Hard Rain” reaction

Wow. Lots of stuff happed tonight. So we want to hear your comments on tonight’s show.

What did you think about:

  • Matt yelling at his mom in the hospital?
  • Buddy’s conversation with Riggins as he drove him out to the middle of nowhere. Strange that Buddy looks to Tim for advice?
  • Was Madison a distraction during a water break?
  • Was JD disrespectful, or did Joe have it coming?
  • And what’s up with Coach Taylor having to break up yet another fight?
  • Redistricting? New (old) school? New rival? What could this mean for the future?
  • And were the names of Mindy’s friends legit?
